Planning to get married in Nicaragua? Here are the legal requirements to register a civil marriage in the country:
For U.S. Citizens (or Foreign Nationals):
- Copy of your valid U.S. passport with the most recent Nicaraguan entry stamp.
- Original and copy of your divorce certificate (if applicable) and your personal details (full name, age, occupation, nationality, etc.).
- Original and copy of the bride’s birth certificate.
- Copy of the bride’s Nicaraguan identity card (Cédula) and her personal details.
- Education level of both the groom and the bride.
- Certificate of single status or divorce certificate (as applicable). For Nicaraguan nationals, a certificate of singleness is required. For foreigners, a divorce certificate or judicial decree is required if previously married.
- Copy of the identity cards (Cédulas) of two witnesses (they may be relatives), along with their full personal information.
Important Notes:
- Both parties must be at least 18 years old to legally marry in Nicaragua.
- If both parties are foreigners, the following documents are required:
- Valid and current passport
- Birth certificate
- Nicaraguan Residence Card (if applicable)
- Divorce certificate or court judgment (if previously married)
